Sharing Your Voice: A Journey to Cybersecurity on the Our Voices Podcast
Recently, I had the opportunity of being a guest on a podcast. Today, I want to share the experience and highlight not only my contribution but also the unique features of the Our Voices Podcast.
Being a guest on a podcast is similar to giving a presentation: you're in the spotlight, but the focus is on the content of the discussion. I was there to share my ideas and experiences, with the objective of helping as many people as I can.
The host Nikema, is great. They know how to steer a conversation, and brilliantly navigate a variety of topics, making it easy for guests to share their insights and for listeners to gain value from the discussion. The podcast is about sharing experiences and perspectives of under-recognized members in tech. I will continue to be on the lookout here and cheering Nikema on.
The episode we recorded was a blend of my personal story and experiences as well as broader discussions that tie into the theme of getting into tech. I come from a non traditional background into Cybersecurity and we talked into detail about this. For more on my story, you can refer to this post.
This was a great experience. It pushed me to articulate my thoughts clearly and challenged me to think on my feet. It was also a great way to reach out to a wider audience and share my work with them. I’m more of a writer than a speaker, but this sort of forces you to get there in order to get your thoughts across.
But more than anything else, the experience highlighted the importance of platforms like "Our Voices Podcast" that create a space for diverse voices and stories. They facilitate meaningful conversations, broaden our horizons, and connect us in ways that other mediums simply can't.
There aren’t always people that look like you in the room, and it is definitely a good feeling when there is.
I plan on contributing here with resources that I provide to the community to learn this field.
Conclusion
In conclusion, being on the Our Voices Podcast was about contributing to a broader discussion, learning from others, and helping others. I highly recommend it to anyone given the opportunity.
We all have a story to share, one that reminds us how far we’ve come.
