Free Linux Course
I have previously talked about the areas that are important when it comes to learning about Security. Although there are several, here’s a few that stand out.
Network Fundamentals
OS Fundamentals (Any OS)
Learning Linux (Will explain why)
Cloud Computing
Again, these are some of the areas to focus on, but not an exhaustive list.
Previously, I created a free course, Intro to Linux . An intro into the command line and its fundamentals. I truly made it for people starting out with Linux from scratch.
You’ll finish the course knowing the fundamental commands, and where to go for help. It comes with help guides and quizzes to gauge your learning progress.

Why Linux?
If you’re going to be working with servers in your career, chances are they will be running Linux. If you find yourself in a Cloud environment, chances are this is going to be in Linux.
In fact, approximately 90% of the public cloud workload operates on Linux as explained in this blog post by the Linux Foundation. The infrastructure is better suited for massive computation.
This is a point that maybe the every day user doesn’t realize, but most apps we use on a day to day basis run on Linux. (That app you’re scrolling through at night 😂, it runs on Linux).
On the job for any Cybersecurity, DevOps or Engineering related role, you will be working with more Linux servers or instances than anything else.
Additionally, Linux can come up in an interview round, since it is generally the OS of Cybersecurity. And knowing the fundamentals of it will be a difference maker. This could be a technical interview where Linux is key to solve the challenge.
These are just some of the practical applications of Linux
Automate Tasks
Schedule Services using Cron
Manage Your Network
Securely Connect To Remote Systems
Increase Productivity
Wrapping Up
I really hope the community will find value in the course and get the most out of it.
There are a lot of resources out there to get hands on experience, we just have to do our part to be able to benefit from them.
The TLDR, is that learning this skill will be a difference maker for you in many ways.
I truly believe if resources are readily available to people that are just starting out, this will pave the way for more to enter this field.
